MSE Exhibition: Institute of Textile Machinery and High Performance Material Technology (ITM)

The Institute of Textile Machinery and High Performance Material Technology (ITM) at Technische Universität Dresden is one of the worldwide leading university research facilities in the fields of Textile and Assembly Technology. To successfully complete various research projects, the ITM is equipped with modern infrastructure, allowing the researchers to rapidly develop innovative technologies and products.

 

ITMs research competencies are among others the development of process chains for 2D and 3D fabrics with complex geometries and tailored properties. Besides classical textile materials, the ITM is specialized in the processing of high-performance fibers and metallic materials, especially wire.

Cellular metals are a particularly noteworthy development of the ITM. Cellular metals consist of wires that are positively connected to form a three-dimensional cell composite using industrially established and highly automated manufacturing processes. Wires with any cross-section can be used. Cellular metals offer revolutionary solutions for lightweight metal components, impact-resistant fiber composites and concrete components as well as the hybrid processing of materials for multi-material design components. Cellular metals are particularly light, highly stressable, have outstanding crash resistance, and are 100 % recyclable.

At the ITM, research activities are focused on machine design as well as the development of technologies and products along the entire process chain for textile high-tech applications, in addition to realizing completely automated, digitally networked, and simulation-based process chains in a highly efficient and sustainable manner. The ITM is conducting comprehensive research and development activities in the fields of fiber- and textile-based high-performance materials as well as the corresponding product technologies for high-tech performance applications, such as functionally integrated lightweight structures, textile semi-finished products for biological and medical purposes, adaptive sensor-actuator-networks, integrated microsystems technology as well as reinforcement structures for construction engineering designed to meet specific requirements.

From September 22 to 25, 2020, the German Materials Society (DGM) is organizing the "Materials Science and Engineering Congress" (MSE), which this year is taking place entirely virtually. During the four-day conference there will be an exhibition where, among other things, the "Institute of Textile Machinery and High Performance Material Technology (ITM), TU Dresden" will be presented.
